This is my second take on the Alpi Chinos from Named patterns, and the result is more satisfactory. This time, I used medium-weight orange cotton purchased in MacCulloch & Wallis.
I cut a size 40 again and raised the crotch by 0.7cm. For this pair, I also enlarged the side and back pockets in order to accommodate my gigantic hands more easily. These trousers sit snug and comfortable against my body because, compared with the previous pair, they are made from thicker and non-stretch fabric. And now I want to make another pair in red denim!
When I was searching for suitable fabric samples in the shop, this playful brick-coloured cotton caught my eye immediately. Given that I've never owned any orange garments, I am not quite sure whether this colour suits me. Maybe I can try to wear these trousers with soft colours and little by little get used to it. In any case, I am not giving up!
What about you? What is your approach to wearing new colours?

I love the orange pants! they look awesome on you. (I own a pair of
ReplyDeleteorange shoes - converse chucks - they provide a pop of color when I wear
a lot of black & grey and people on the street compliment them.
:-)
You suit that colour to a tee. Look at your images there is no denying it. Very Cool. Sassy Sewing Bees https://facebook.com/sassysewingbees ❀
ReplyDeleteI think these are very you! You look super hip!
ReplyDeleteThey seem like they fit great!
ReplyDeleteThey look great, glad you've worked out your perfect fit. I used to own orange cords and always loved wearing them. Does your fabric have a bit of sheen? It looks very pretty. I very much like the way you've paired the orange with neutrals. I don't have any great advice for how to work orange in but I've noticed with my sewing color schemes seem to develop naturally. I'll make one item and then slowly make items to work with it. If I'm particularly fond of a color scheme I tend to plagiarize myself for a while and then slowly move on.
ReplyDeleteIT SUITS YOU. but i want to steal them. if i find a color i'm unsure of, i usually wear it away from my face at first. like dem HOT PANTS.
ReplyDeleteAwesome trousers! The fit is fab and the fabric is a fantastic colour & looks very classy.
ReplyDeleteGreat fit Inna! Love them. And I love how you've styled the orange pants. Really like the different tones and patterns. How do I wear a new colour? Make sure it's patterned?!
ReplyDeleteIt's the most fabulous pants and you look great in them!
ReplyDeleteFantastic looking pants and love the colour!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great fit and great color! and I also like the texture of this cotton. This earthy orange should look good with many of solid, vivid, or earthy colors! For the coming springtime, I can see this orange-color pants with pure white top and bright color scarf!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw your first version I loved it! But these trousers are amazing!!!!!! Love the colour and the fit is perfect, also I like wide pockets :-) My wardrobe is full of colour, many times I think that I have to sew more neutral and soft colours.
ReplyDeleteIn general, people are not used to bright colours, but they make life so much better and people smile :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vicki! The Named patterns worth a try ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat advise!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you: colours are good but sometimes you need to add neutrals too. Not easy if you are crazy about colours :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pants! What a difference fabric makes.
ReplyDeleteMy approach to new colors is to experiment until you find something that works.
The trousers look great, I though they're made of leather, that's how this fabric looks in the photos! *^o^* And The fit is much better. I can see you changed your hair colour to match new pants! *^v^*~~~
ReplyDeleteMy approach to wear new colours is: "Bring them on!" I love all the bright colours (apart from yellow close to my face, it does something blah to my complexion...), it's the lack of colour that frightens me, all those beiges, vanillas, milky blues. I just don't touch them. ^^*~~
Thanks, Kirsty! I'll try to take it easy with this orange trousers. Not only is the colour unusual for my everyday wear but also for the London crowd :)
ReplyDeleteInfiniti scarf, you want to say? I have some bright yarn, should knit something really quickly :)When are you coming to London?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Novita! The trousers are super comfy and a big part of it hides within a beautifully drafted pattern.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pair of chinos--I love the color, which looks pumpkin orange on my monitor.
ReplyDeleteThese look like a completely different pant. I personally love the orange - I think it is a very in colour right now and I think it suits you. Oh yeah a red pair!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
ReplyDeleteI should follow your attitude because I am rather uncertain about new colours/prints/styles.
ReplyDeleteWe should create a "Splash of colour" community! On my opinion, people underestimate the role of colours in their lives, don't you think so?
ReplyDeleteThe fabric looks shiny because of the white thread woven into it. Very misleading but I like this little visual trick ;) I completely understand the plagiarism of colours, I tend to do the same with food..
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandra! Last year, when mustard colour was very on vogue, I tried a few garments in different mustard hues but I looked like a corpse in them. I am glad I've discovered this orange!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! I noticed a few years ago an interesting (but sad) phenomenon - I saw people on Easter Sunday, going to church or to visit their families, everybody dressed in black, grey, dark blue... Easter is supposed to be the greatest Catholic holiday, full of hope and joy, and they all were just gloomy!... It brought to my mind Indian and Japanese festivals, full of bright colourfull clothing, games, parades. We aren't able to celebrate in a happy way, people of the West.
ReplyDeleteI've just finished a new dress and it's red and pink! *^o^*
Love love love. And I also love the fabric you used for the top. I have the same issue with bright colors but you get used to it in the end! the fit is fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteIt suits you perfectly: strong colour for a strong personality! The fit is amazing, they look really nice. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThis means a lot coming from you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Silvia! Bright colours are not easy to wear, but as you said, once you become accustomed to it - this is it :)
ReplyDeleteWow cool trou and hell yes you absolutely suit orange. Soooo much better fit without the stretch factor.
